Adjunct Professor Ellyn Brown, a member of the New York Stock Exchange Board of Directors and President of Brown & Associates, a corporate law and consulting firm specializing in operations, compliance and governance services for financial services industry clients, brings a variety of real world legal experience to her classes. To capitalize on what students learn in her Broker-Dealer and Investment Adviser Law course, Brown organized a behind the scenes tour of the New York Stock Exchange.

coincided with the roll-out of Phase III of the Hybrid Market, the dual automated and auction trading platform that provides customers with the broadest choice of trade-execution preferences. The switch, initially turned on in two stocks, removed restrictions on the New York Stock Exchange’s automatic-execution facility and freed the market to trade at a much higher speed. During their trip, each student spent time with a specialist on the floor of the Exchange, and also observed the operation of the StockWatch system, the state-of-the-art computer surveillance unit that continuously monitors the market for unusual trading patterns. After their tour, the students were invited to ring the closing bell, an event broadcast on the Today Show and several financial channels. |
